The 80's Cafe
I realize I haven't really made an entry about my life in quite so time so I thought I'd go ahead and update everyone at this point. Oddlly enough I'm going to be turning 36 soon. Argh sometimes that seems so freaking old. Even though I haven't been terribly productive I guess you still get into patterns of life.

At the moment I'm sitting at a local Cafe spinning lots & lots of old 80's vinyl records. It's kind of fun and I've been doing it way too much lately. The Antique store down the street has all kinds of old 80's records for $1 & $2 dollars so I can't help, but continue to buy even though I can't really afford the 10 or 20 albums I've been picking up at a time.

There's something cool about vinyl. It definitely has a particular sound to it when it's played & it's fun for me to be able to buy all of these albums from my youth I wasn't able to afford. At the moment I'm listening to a 12" of Fascination by the Human League. For all of you other old people out there. Did you know that they are still together?

I'm also now playing a 12" of "Be Near Me" by ABC. The other 2 songs I just played were 19 by Paul Hardcastle & Russian Radio by Red Flag. Damn they use to play this music ages ago on the regular stations. Hard to believe they're considered retro classics these days. Most of these kids wouldn't know any of these damn groups, but I enjoy spinning the vinyl & it's even niftier because they have 2 turntables where you can fade one song into the next. I feel so much like an 80's DJ. At least some of you other old timers would enjoy the music I play.

I'm sure the poor, cute 22 year old boy who works here wants to kill me. I imagine it's a bit like if I was his age & some old hippies were playing there stinky music back in the day.

Ooh, vinyl! Though I love 45's best of all, and the occasional bit of quirky new stuff.

Yup...I've picked up a few cheesey 45's also. Vinyl just has a special place in my heart as far as thinking how cool it was while growing up. Of course after about 16 just about everyone switched to CD's.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Just this morning I heard some remake of Give a Little Bit - sounded much like the Goo Goo Dolls, but I can't confirm nor deny that.

Very dispassionate though. =/

There IS something about vinyl--there's something about the joy that goes into getting a new (or new to you) LP, placing it on the turntable and cranking it up. While most would say that digital media sounds better than vinyl, an LP has a sound that is in a league of its own, and if properly taken care of, sometimes can be indistinguishable from a CD. (I've been fooled more than a few times.)

But the young'uns tend to think there's something wrong with the old farts who still talk about the joys of vinyl yesteryear. I just hitch up my onion belt and keep on going.

I completely agree with you. I've actually had people say they though vinyl had a richer sound. Lately for me it's all about finding some bargain record that I never bought as a kid & being able to put it on the turntable.
